MVP revisited

can anyone think of a candidate that might prevent steve from 3peating? i dug around the statpage on nba.com for a while and i don't think anyone is even close.
20ppg, 3rpg, 11ast, 52%fg, 50%3ptfg (and that % comes with taking and making more 3s than pretty much anyone else. the only guys that are close in 3s made or attempted are nowhere near steve in the other stat categories)
i mean...
that's pretty tough to beat, right?

all i'm saying is this:
there's not a team in the league that wouldn't gladly feed their own pointguard to a shark or grizzly bear at the chance to recruit this guy.

I'm gonna have to agree with you. Nash 3peats. The guy is nuts.

Unless he gets injured... Its still very early.

As of right now, I'd say yes. But what if Orlando or Washington gets a top 4 seed? Howard and Arenas are playing excellent ball and don't have the talent around them Nash has. And if Dirk can turn it on like he did in last year's playoffs, he definately has to be in contention. I think the only way Nash can lose is due to his supporting cast being so good.

Very good point Mark. In fact, that takes us back to question...what makes someone an MVP? Is it stats, or do you have to take their team, division, conference into consideration?

that is a great point. does anybody know what really determines MVP?
we know its not based solely on stats (BronkeyKong last year), but to what degree are these other things considered?
don't forget- steve won last year and the year before with almost the same supporting cast, and neither year did the suns win it all. i think it's evident that barring injury, the suns will finish in the top 4, but how important is that in the selection of MVP? even if g arenas or dirk start to perform better than they already are (which, aside from %s would be tough to do), is there time to boost their stat line enough to make steve undeserving? even if they earn a top4 seed(which dirk's mavs almost certainly will)?
i guess its a moot point until we know what makes someone an MVP. once we figure that out, i'm sure we will all be able to agree that steve is a shoe-in.
ha.

as for dwight howard, i think he may be the only one within striking distance.
his stats are incredible (100% 3pt!! ha), and depending on how much supporting cast matters, i'd say its certainly a possibility. good call.

The MVP is different for every voter but you can always count on the best player on the best teams to be the primary candidates.

At this point, I think you're right, Nash, almost uncontested. We'll see how the playoff push goes but right now it looks like Dirk, LeBron, and Hibachi are all in contention.

I love Howard but my only beef is is quiet demeanor. He might actually get my vote, if I had one, but I would never put $$ on him winning because he's so quiet which equates, maybe unfairly, to a lack of leadership on his team from the voters' perspective.
