miami?

so miami has a 25% chance to get the 1st pick this year.
that would put marion, dwade, and a #1 pick on miami next year.
if dwade is healthy, that seems pretty formidable.
thoughts?

Yeah... I don't know about Miami. Unproven coach and lack of quality role players (unless some of the young guys they played this season are pretty good). On the other hand, they are in the East so if they can win 44 games they may just lock up the top spot (just kidding Tom).

How's about Chicago though?! They still don't have a coach but they've now got the number one pick and more than a few predicted them to be Finals contenders this year:

I didn't really pay attention to who they got back for Big Ben & Joe Smith but I do remember Drew Gooden. With his contract and Hienrich's, they've already got a decent chunk of change invested in the 2 positions that are the concensus top 2 picks. They've got a month or so (I think) until the draft. If they can angle to trade Gooden or Heinrich for another piece(s) they need, it'll probably make their decision easier. I don't really follow prospects much but if either of the top 2 aren't deemed 'ready' to produce, maybe you just hold your cards & wait until next year to make more decisions?

Either way, I believe the biggest factor in their (& Miami's) success is the head coach slot. With an Avery Johnson, or similar quality, they could take the East by storm.

So, how often has the worst team actually gotten the first pick? isn't it something rediculus like 3 in 20?

yea i thought the bulls were gonna kill everyone last year. amazing that they were viewed as such contenders not even a year ago and now they have the first pick.

you're right shasher, it seems like the worst team never gets the first pick. i guess its all for the best but it seems like it would happen more often.

I was rooting for Bucks to get first pick. Definately not Chicago, i don't like any team that says they are better than detroit, when they are not even close. For example, Joaquim Noah late in the season after they lost to us. Also, like four different people on the Magic after our last series.

I wouldn't have minded Miami getting the 1 pick. But i guess the first 2 picks are supposed to be kinda equally good. Idk, i don't really follow drafts/college. Of course i wasn't rooted for Minn or the West. The East needs like the next five #1 pickes to help even out the conferences.

I think Simmons put it best last year after all of Boston had their sites set on Durant or Odom.

Even the BEST odds of getting the #1 are only approx 25% which means there is a 75% chance that they won't get it.

Just found this simulator:

I tried it about 20 times and got Miami as #1 about 6.

As for the Bucks... I swore up and down that I'd never become a bucks fan but Milwaukee is only about an hour from here so I hope they're at least improved/consistent/competitive next year. If I'm going to see some games, they've got to be entertaining. Even if their opponent is a fun one, it's no fun to see one team squash another. I do love the underdog so the fact that they've sucked for so long helps their case a little for me but chances are slim that they move up into my TMobile Fave 5.

Even if they are competitive, I'm a little worried about Skiles-Ball. It seems a little too much like JVG-ball (all defense, little offense. See also: MikeBrown-ball). I love me some JVG analysis but uh...coaching? Maybe successful, but definitely booorring!! Chicago looked a lot like that at times when Skiles was with them.

Chicago's a thought too though. It's about as far as Houston is from Austin. All goes back to the coaching vacancy.

The new Bucks GM, John Hammond, was Dumar's right hand man in Detroit.

I have complete confidence in Joe. Joe has complete comfidence in Hammond; so, I am optimistic about their future.
===================
If they work it like Det did. Maybe Skiles is not a long term coach but jsut a coach that could be helpful for some aspect/aspects of the game. Then, while the team is on the upstride, get a better coach to glean other stuff from. Just a thought.
