p.s. if it asks you to sign up for an account & you don't want to, just type "ny times battier" into google & click on the link there (I think for some reason linking to NY Times articles from web searches bypasses the tracking cookie they reference; for me at least)

I read half of it. Good stuff. I'll finish the rest later.

great post, jer. that article did a great job of making me like houston and shane a lot more.

seems like the spurs (and more recently, and maybe to a slightly lesser extent, the thibedeaux celtics) are talking about the same crap and with similar results.

i was all smiles when he was talking about mutumbo-
“And if he doesn’t catch the ball,” Morey says, “he can’t do the finger wag. And he loves the finger wag.”

but back to the spurs comparison;)
(is it just me or did this article make it seem like the spurs/celts/rockets are philisophically very similar?)

i feel like these 2 excerpts from that article really outline that similarity..
-snip-
One way the Rockets can tell if their opponents have taken to analyzing basketball in similar ways as they do is their attitude to the corner 3: the smart teams take a lot of them and seek to prevent their opponents from taking them.
snip-

-snip-
One way the Rockets can see which teams think about the game as they do is by identifying those that “try dramatically not to foul.”
-snip-

i mean, they may as well have said "we are just like the spurs", right?

especially with how shane gave props to manu-
The San Antonio Spurs’ Manu Ginóbili is a statistical freak: he has no imbalance whatsoever in his game — there is no one way to play him that is better than another. He is equally efficient both off the dribble and off the pass, going left and right and from any spot on the floor.

i'm not sure if i like shane more for knowing that fact, or if i like manu more for making it a fact...manu prolly called him when he read this and was all "hey! you noticed!"
then shane was like "fuck you"

again, props jer. that was a good read.

Doh! I was able to read this when you posted it. But, now, no matter what route i take i can only see page one of the article. Any attempt at the others is met by the registration page:(

Well, the first 4 pages were tight. Fuck Coach K. ;D

Hey, i been trying once a day, and the article finally came up again so i was able to finish it.

Detroit could sure use a hyper-intelligent player, especially the last few years when they were not smart in the playoffs:D I'll give you AI for Battier. Come on...Take him.
