Mini-rant

After watching the NBA TV Top 10: Dec 11 at NBA.com, though i'd post.

My fuss is blocks. As I percieve it, nearly all NBA players (not Alonzo Mourning) would rather have a block where they send the ball flying 20 meters, as opposed to a block where they retain possession afterwards.

Normally, I just give players the benefit of the doubt. I'll just say, "Oh, that was probably the only block that would work that time," or, "that particular block probably did not really allow for a chance to retain the ball."

But sometimes, they could have definately kept possession. Like a block Lebron has in the top 10 today, the ball is practically hovering right in front of him in midair (exageration included), looks like he could just grab the ball and run away.

Maybe, distanced of blocked ball traveled is inversely proportional to penis size and sending the ball flying makes them feel like manly men, i don't know.

ahhhh, now i feel better.

when you have a chance do dunk but you just lay it in, the other team doesn't feel like they just got abused.

for instance (sorry tom, i'm not using this example just because this is your post) , in the DET HOU game last night, right before half time, Tmac jumped over/through the entire team and dunked on them so hard that you could see all 5 pistons slouch their shoulders a little and hang their heads. if he would have just layed it in, i doubt it would have had the same psychological effect.

same with blocks. although some of MY favorite blocks are the ones where the defender jumps up and grabs the ball (KG seems to be really good at that), i bet it doesn't do NEAR as much mental damage (to the shooter) as when the ball gets launched into the rainbows.

i'd like to see a block so hard that the ball pops or explodes or something. can you imagine what it would feel like to get your shot EXPLODED? man, you'd never hear the end of it.

of course, the penis size theory is probably just as likely.

Haha, i gotta agree, few things would be cooler than the a ball jsut being reduced to dust on a block. I supppose that would be better than a possession.

And getting your shot stuffed, does make you feel like an asshat. But, i'm not sure the possible physcological edge is as helpful to winning as an extra possesion.

As for layups and ducks. There are practical reasons for dunking as well. It isn't done just done to light one team's fire and quell the other's. Dunks are the highest percentage shot in basketball, and they are a lot harder to block than a layup.

Blocks that bounce off the rafters, don't share the practical-ness(word?) of a dunk.

btw, That was a nooice drive and dunk by t-mac:D He and Yao were both looking strong.
