This is a good thing short term and long term. First off, looks like there is a good chance Mcdyess' contract will be bought out and he will head back to Detroit. So this trade is essentially Iverson for Billups.

I love Billups and think he is even underrated. But there is no comparison to AI. Iverson is only a year older than Billups.

Some think of Iverson as a bad chemistry guy. But, he only played with two teams. On philly he did what a amazing player with little or no support needs to do. Denver, i don't know what the problem was. Maybe AI , maybe not.

I just think it there is fair reason to believe AI, especially at this stage in his career and in his maturity, might play teamball pretty well. He has never played with a team as good as Detroit, and Detroit can actually make good use of his high-volume shooting.

That's the short-term, the long term is even more interesting. Here's one summing up i read.

"Down, the road the Pistons becomes the driving force of big-time free agency as soon as Iverson's contract comes off the books next summer. The Pistons will combine a winning environment, one of the most respected general managers in the game, and -- depending on salary cap levels that are yet to be set, and extensions that may yet be given to existing Pistons -- likely enough cap space to sign two free agent players to max contracts over the next summers of 2009 and 2010.

Feast your eyes on this list of players who will be available. 2010 free agents include LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Amare Stoudemire, Ray Allen, Tyson Chandler, Manu Ginobili, Richard Jefferson, Joe Johnson, Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Redd.

The two that jump out to me are, of course, Chris Bosh and LeBron James. They played together nicely on Team USA, and now Dumars can at least entertain the notion of signing not one of those two, but both." -TrueHoop by Henry Abbot

On a personal note, Iverson has for years been one of my favorite if not my favorite non-piston for years. So, this is just straight exciting. I want a Jersey! Haha!

Forgot to say, billups has three more years on his contract. So that vs. Iverson's expiring contract along with Rasheed's expiring contract opens up a ton of money.

wow... just saw the headlines

talk about your pressure for the first year coach. hope they have some good rebounders; AI likes to chuck it up there :)

Fantastic trade. Almost as good as nothing for Artest. They are very similar deals in fact. Artest is on his last year of his contract too.

man i bet you're licking your chops now tom. your team may actually be able to compete with jeremy and shasher's teams now;)

no, i find its hard to dislike AI and his hilarious/famous "it's practice!" talk every year. i'm a big fan, and i'm happy for the pistons and for him. i think you are right, he's never been on a team that good. it will be fun to watch.

just further evidence that my poor spurs are doomed! IF they make it past the impossibly talented rockets OR kobe&co, they have only AI or KG to look forward to. NOOOOOOO!!!!!
