Mike Woodson

don't know much about ATLs coach, but he's been there 4 years now and every year they do way better than the year before.

Team Year Regular Season Post Season
G W L PCT Finish Result
ATL 2004-05 82 13 69 .159 5th in Southeast Missed Playoffs
ATL 2005-06 82 26 56 .317 5th in Southeast Missed Playoffs
ATL 2006-07 82 30 52 .366 5th in Southeast Missed Playoffs
ATL 2007-08 82 37 45 .451 3rd in Southeast In Progress

but the real reason i'm making this post is because he shaved his head on a bet. he bet his team that if they made the playoffs he would shave his head. they did, and so he did.
now i may be soft on baldys, but that seems ultra cool to me. i wonder how long the bet was standing before they finally made the playoffs. i mean, how often do we see coaches do silly shit like that these days? i like it.

and now i expect jer to explain the origins of the bet and the history behind the relationship between mike woodson and the atlanta hawks. i know you've already researched it man, don't lie. freak.

Funny that you mention it... Well, it all started in the mesolithic era and the rise moon worship due to it's valuable assistance to hunter(/gatherer) societies by illuminating the otherwise pitch black night allowing us shadowy glimpses of our better-sighted prey.

The basketball has it's origins in the moon itself. The basket being a metaphor (a target)for the hunted, the players are obviously hunters, and the moon going through the target symbolized their tribute that the moon is truly the enabler of their spoils rather than man and his forged weapons.

Really though. How dare you accuse me of knowing anything about the Hawks?? What kind of fan do you think I am?

Sad to say... I actually did hear last night at some point that he was a Larry Brown assistant at one point. After that show though (only saw the 4th quarter)... I guess he does warrant some reading. That was some exciting shit. I'd give more credit to the youthfull exuberent(sp?) badassness of JJ & Josh Smith than to the coach (though he's obviously no slouch). Remember, they lost by 20 points each of the 1st two, road, games.

I would LOVE to be wrong about the Celtics - I hope they get stomped. Wouldn't that be a bigger upset than GS over DAL last year?

Very fun origin story:)

I think every coach under 55 has been an assisstant for Larry Brown at some point. Like, he is old.

And yeah, it would be a much bigger upset.

Yea, though the Mavs won 67 games or some such, the Celtics have been much more hyped.
