Random thoughts

Boston Band Wagon
All you Boston lovers are way off. They suck, and they won't get out of the second round. Beating Pheonix means very little a day after they lose to Philly. How is it that the Pheonix game gets so much hype, but noone talk about how they let Philly go on a 16-0 run?

Barkley does it again
Just when I started to respect Barkley's opinion again, he goes and say something exceedingly stupid. "Houston will struggle to make the playoffs. They will only win 5 more games." Hells bells Charles! They've already won 2 since he said this, and their up-coming schedule is thus:

San Antonio
Sacramento
Portland
Seattle
LA Clippers
Phoenix
Denver
Utah
LA Clippers

I can see losing to SA, Pheonix, and Utah...maybe even Denver. But come on, that is not a hard schedule, and they are in 2nd place!

Tsk Tsk Kobe

With his ejection against Bobcats, Kobe has entered the realm of the elite complainers. With the new rule put in place this year, for each technical he recieves from now on, he will be suspended for one game. Does anyone know if this extends into the playoffs?

Fav 5 Young guys
Monte Ellis - Dang that guy is fast
Luis Scola - Never gives up
Leon Powe - He produces without mistakes
Carl Landry - Professional dunker
Spencer Hawes - 7 footer with a nice jumper

Who are your favorite younguns?

i dont know how you can hate that hard. i mean, i was the first to say that the Cs were nothing but a lot of talk and some KG. and i still pretty much believe that. i mean, as you pointed out, they got whooped by philly who is clearly terrible in more ways than one.

I still don't think they're gonna get any rings, and also i think their schedule pretty much renders any reg season record/stats useless for the purposes of meaningful comparison.

but they're 11-4 against the top 8 teams in the west, and most of those victories are attributed to their D. if you dig into those games, a lot of them (i think) can be discounted due to injury, schedule crunches, etc. but not all of them. i'd say at the very least, they have proven (to me) that they are contenders.

have any of the top 8 in the west been so successful against their peers?

i'm just saying...although i'm still leaving the reins of the bandwagon in the capable hands of richard and jeremy, i can't just put a cat in the oven and call it a biscuit. if you know what i mean. and i think you do

favorite younguns:
landry and ellis are way up there for me but
CHRIS PAUL IS 22!
and scola is 27- you cant use him for a youngun.

did i mention chris paul? he's 22, you know...

i had this talk with shasher earlier, but i feel very strongly about it. i think chris paul is pretty good at basketball. i mean, he's no ray allen, but...

no seriously chris paul is ridiculous. my favorite part is that unlike most bad ass point guards, he uses his uncanny ability to read passing lanes (he now leads nash in AST/game by .2) to steal everyone else's passes. or what about this stat: he connects on approx 3 million alley oop passes every game. true statement! oh my! what a talented young man!

I dunno. I mean, I know my hating this hard is rediculus. But it all started with that schedule at the beginning of the season. I truly think it was a conspiracy. Thus, the hate began. Their record against the top teams cannot be ignored, but I must counter the blind lovers out there with blind hatred.

"My agility is the CEO of the United Global Agility Corporation." - Steve Nash

That's badass. What's better? Chris Paul is.

Another thought; JKidd & CP3 are damn good point guards but both seem to have melded well w/ Byron Scott. Makes me wonder how much Scott jacked from Magic's Showtime (presented by Pat Riley). I mean, they were swept both times but the Nets made it to consecutive Finals a few years back w/ Kidd (presented by Scott). I wish they played more New Orleans on national TV so I could see. Actually, I wish they played more NOLA so I could watch'em in general; I still can't adequately gauge their potential.

I don't blame you for being disbelieving their quality. I think 3-5 teams could do the same thing the C's have done if they played in the LEast. Besides, you can't be thaat much of a blind hater if you put Powe in your top 5 younguns.

Quick symantec check. I resent being labeled as a C's bandwagoner. I think they're very good, probably odds favorites, but by no means am I celebrating that fact. I want them to lose. I want them to lose and I want to bathe in their tears. Bandwagon is definitely a celebratory term. It's pretty much the same words as PartyBus. F the C's.

As for 'younguns'... I need more definition. If we talkin' up-n-comers that's different but if it's just age:

LeBron turned 23 only 4 months ago.
CPaul turns 23 in a little over 1 month.
TowerOHoward turned 22 only 4 mo. ago.
AlJeff turned 23 only 3 months back.
Barring injury, they're all superstars for the long term.

From your choices though, it sounded like your calling out the previously anonymous (I mean Scola alone is almost 30). That'd be a good list.. I mean, you did choose a guy from the C's and another guy (hawe) I've never heard of.

I'm partial though. Farmar, Bynum, & Durant are the only ones that come to mind (and Durant's actually been disappointing).

Oh yeah - I got one. Watch out for a kid on the hawks named Josh Childress. He's a bargain version of Shane Battier. He's also a free agent this season so you'll likely see him on a good team next year.

I don't think durant has been bad. He is forced to take a heap of shots cause their team is so bad. If he was coming off the bench for a a really good team. He'd prob shoot a higher percentage. He'd be taking less shots and the offensive sets wouldn't all have his name all over them. If he thrived shooting that many shots a game his rookie year, he'd be frick'n amazing. However, this way he gets a lot more pratice, so it is probably for his best.

C's are good. Watch them play; it's pretty clear. I jsut got done watching them get revenge on Hornets. It was a great game in the first half. C's just blew up all 2nd half.

Garnett did something wierd in the game. He was guarding West outside the three. West was dribbing in place letting the play setup. Garnett then bent over foward and kinda slammed both his palms on the floor(a la sumo?). Then kinda stayed there, body tucked in a 4 point position. Like a linemen b4 the snap, or a cat of prey before the pounce. "Garnett is wired," to use what the Boston commentator said.

My favorite young'ns are cool detroit dudes, heheh. Amir Johnson, Arron Affalo, and Stucky are hella cool. Maxiel is even radder.

Bynum for sure i like. I'm a big fan of Paul Millsap (Utah) too. Of course, I man-crush on howard, and CP3 too really. I have barely seen al thorton play. But i definately respect his numbers. He is just shy of a 10 and 10 average. That is man skills.

Oh yeah, and i love barkley. You just gotta realize that he will say really retarded things his whole life. That is just part of being a guy who is not very smart AND who tends to say whatever pops in his mind. Their is minimal reflection or caution during the time when a mental thought becomes an oral one for him. He definately has a lot of knowledge; but the man is not the brightest crayon in the box.

Damn, I'm not sure if i just defended him or tore him apart. Well, i love'em.

Oh yeah, one more thing.

Houston will not struggle to make the playoffs. Only one of the nin +.600 west teams is not making it, and that is definately Dallas.

They were already looking questionable, then they lost Dirk. Plus, they have a pretty tough schedule.

Yea, I meant up and comers.

But, in the spirit of young up and comers, I'll take off Scola and put in Ryan Gomes. Or maybe this guy Javaris Crittenton.

I've been pretty disappointed in what I've seen from Durant.

I do like Stukey though, good call.
Good call with Bynum too, though I think he's gotten more press than this list gets. Shoulda been more descriptive there.

I watched the Celtics-Hornets game, and yea, they looked good. So, I guess I'll quit hating so much...however, I'm not backing off my 2nd round exit prediction.

It's wierd how I feel the need to find a connection to a current post so I don't have to start a new one when I find something of interest. No linky here, just burying this because I want to.

I think by now everyone knows that I really like Simmons. Well, I just finished this article and it's the best Wild W(B)est article I've read yet.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/080326

On top of a quality article, he tops it all off with a little present for me. I get some sadist pleasure reading the scared shitless thoughts of a Celtics fan living in L.A. making this Lakers team out to be badass for no real good reason. Yes, they're talented but they're way to injured at this point in the season to pull together a great postseason. Makes me giddy to see him sweat though.

Magic, Kareem, and Worthy definitely left an impresssion.

Durant is a rookie. He will be great. He's on the worst team in the league. That's right, the Sonics are worse than Miami. They just dumped their entire roster (except for Durant) in the hopes of moving the team. No one could do well in his situation (except maybe LeBron). Durant was set up to fail. Simmons mentioned that what the Sonics owner is doing should be illegal. Purposely destroying a team in order to try and move it.

Speaking of LeBron, there is no way that he should not be the MVP. The year that he SHOULD have won he averaged: 31.4 pts, 6.6 asts, 7 rbds. This year he has 30.7 pts, 7.4 ast and 8.1 rbds. That is frickin insane. Not to mention if you take him away the Cavs totally suck. So that fills both possible definitions of MVP (best player in the league and more important to his team than any other player is to their team).

oh man i forgot about maxiel and milsap. good work i love those dudes.

glad to hear jer say F the Cs.

are those reins heavy, richard? haha do you still have that picture of KGstrodamus? you should put that one up again

dullstone said...

whats witht taht doublepost?

AS far as Lebron for MVP. He is definately deserving. But so are CP and kobe, i think. They both have crazy stats as well, they both would have shitty teams if they were not on the teams.

Their stats may not be AS crazy as Lebron's, but still CP is very close to averaging three numbers no one ever has b4, i think that was in points, assists, and steals. Sorry, i forget. Still, he has the first 20 - 10 season in 16 years. Oh and he has the best assist to turnover ratio. He is like a perfect little basketball machine.

Kobe, well, not much i need to say about him. But don't forget that he is also a first-team all-defense player as well as that whole -being able to score anytime, anywhere- thing.

One more thing about CP and Kobe. They are leading team's (hand and foot in CP's case) that have been the most consistant all season-long, versus a conference that is the best in my memory. And not one person expected them to play near so well when we were still in preseason.

jake said...

i got double posted one time i never figured it out i dunno tom.

i think all the dudes we are talking about are legitimate contenders, but i think it would be foolish to ignore jimi's MVP post and the fact that pretty much every year the MVP is on the team with the 1st or 2nd best record in the league.
so... lebron kind of can't be MVP, right?
i mean, 30, 8 and 7 (man that is nuts!) or whatever it doesn't really matter does it?
i guess this is a great test of that unwritten rule for MVP selection, as i think he clearly has the most bonkers stat line. as jimi pointed out, i thought it was crazy that one time a few years ago when they gave it to nash over Bron and Bron's line wasn't as good as it is now. up until then i would have thought that a 30, 7 and 7 season pretty much locks down MVP. it apparently doesn't

nobody is more on the CP bandwagon than me (i might pick him first, before kobe OR lebron, which for me is INSANE. and in fact is going to be the subject of a post i'm about to make) , but how can you F with 30, 7 and 8?

watch-if KG wins it, then i think thats irrefutable proof. pretty sure even he would agree that his #s aren't as good as any of these other dudes

I guess I am holding the reins. But I'm doing it very smuggly. ;) I've got a nice comfy seat and everything.

I don't blame Patrick for being bitter. I've been known to have some irrational absolute hatred (see Jerome Bettis, Kobe Bryant, Tom Brady).

Yet, it's KG, Patrick. I know he makes gazillions of dollars, and lives a life of celebrity and luxury. But of all the NBA'ers out there who deserve a ring, who more than KG. Can't you just be happy for him?

dullstone said...

hmm, Dallas just had a big win over GS in Dirk's comeback. Thing about that, for some reason i thought i heard Dirk's injury was season ending. The man bugs me, but i'm very happy he's back. I always cheer for dallas to lose, but that is no way to end a season, esp. on a year like this.

So nayway, I gotta retract my assuredness that they will not make the playoffs. I thought Drik was out, with him back, so are they.
