How do you make purple icing?

who is this bynum? why wasnt i told that the lakers have a strong young giant who answers to the name of 'Bynum'? dang that guy has potential. you know jer, by the way they murdered my spurs last night, i wouldnt be surprised to see your lakers earn you a purple and gold cake this year. if they can make it past odom's absense and bury smush parker under a pile of bynum's dirty jock straps (and sneak some polonium into steve nash's wheaties) i think they have a pretty good shot.
which brings me to my next sad point..

what the hell happened to my spurs? even considering the limited minutes that Pop is rationing out, i'm just plain unimpressed with this squad. timmy is the only one who shows up every night. we have possibly the best supporting cast in the NBA (that's what i thought before the season started) and not even one of them is doing what they were hired to do. even the best and most consistent of them (oberto, ginobili, parker) aren't playing championship ball. don't get me wrong; i like all these guys and i would love to see them bring home another banner. i just don't think they are playing well enough this year to do it, limited minutes or not.
does anyone else think the spurs look lazy and unorganized this year? maybe i'm crazy, but timmy can't do it by himself. (i think the lakers can vouch for that)

the way its going now, i'll be surprised to see SA beat a healthy LAL, HOU, UTA, or DAL. they are all playing WAY prettier and more consistently. now all they have to do is band together and find some polonium.

I wouldn't say the Lakers murdered the Spurs last night. Though, I am surprised that they won. I don't get to watch a lot of Spurs games, but inconsistency seems to be the term most often used to describe their play of late. I wouldn't worry about it too much. They are getting to the playoffs, and thats where they will start to really play hard.

Which brings me to my next point. I like the "Miami Strategy" of just getting into the playoffs then starting to play. The regular season should be seen as a way to grow chemistry and learn offence and defence. The playoffs is where the better team is determined.

I can't agree with your assessment of the Lakers though. While Bynum is a monster, and they have been playing great without Odom, I still don't think they have what it takes to get past the first round.

Oh yea...SPURS SUCK!!

To further your continued talk about Pop not playing his guys very long. Spurs have only 2 guys averaging 30+ min. Thats surprisingly low compared to the other contenders this season.

Especially as compared to the Suns who have 5 averaging 30+ minutes!

Suns are doomed to injury if they don't aquire someone who can get into that rotation.

yea pop does that crap every year and usually it works out pretty good. i just think we look kind of sloppy this year. i dunno.
i agree though: the playoffs is where the best team is determined and the spurs definitely have a shot.

if odom comes back with some pep, i would wager on him, bynum, and kobe surprising a lot of people.
but honestly last night was one of the first good looks i've had at bynum, so my impression of him may be a little off. he sure looked promising last night though.

Jeremy may take exception to me saying this, but Mutumbo made Bynum look like a chump.

No exception taken at all. Bynum is 19 years old - Mutumbo is... well, let's just say he's got a lot of experience and great genes in the aging department. I was skeptical of Bynum myself when they drafted him but after seeing a game last season against Miami, the kid showed real talent and heart. I did some reading and he seems honest and intelligent but what most impressive is his lack of prima donna syndrome. From what I've read, he's been nothing but an wonderful student. Always attentive and receptive to criticism (a prime example of anti-prima donna). I bought 5 of his rookie cards last year for about $10-12 each and they're selling for over $100 now.

Kareem seems like a wierd guy in general to me but... they brought him in last year to coach Drew, Kwame, & Mihm and he's done wonders. Kwame (former #1 overall pick and a headcase) is still quite the ass, pretty stupid, in my opinion, has small hands for his size (equates to high turnovers), but has managed to log some very important minutes for the lakers. Kareem has even managed to make these guys all understand that defense down low in of the highest importance and offense is secondary. Kwame has become a formidable defender. I'd go as high as saying 8-9th best defensive center in the league.

As for the Lakers winning it all. I'm not going to say I haven't flirted with the idea. They've got the talent to beat anyone on any night. I believe Phil Jackson still doesn't get the credit he deserves for pumping out kids with tremendous poise under pressure (vital to a championship team). And every positive thing I can say about Pop and AJ defensively, I can honestly say, I've seen the same attitude from Phil at an earlier date (though I have to admit that I didn't follow the spurs much prior to their '99 championship season).

All of that said; I really don't think San Antonio has anything immediate to worry about. They've got a classic case of ADD. Their just not focused. Know why? They're truly unique. They've got _nothing_ to prove to anyone at this point and they're the only team that feels that way. I know this because, though they're unique this season, they're not in NBA history. I watched the Lakers play the same way (thought with more f'ing drama) for 5 years straight running. It was only when that 'nothing to prove' attitude pierced the post season that it caused problems (losing to SA in 2003? after only losing 1 game in the entire playoffs the year before & then again losing to Detroit in 2005 after a hard fought series against SA and underestimating Detroit's D.)

They'll be fine as long as they don't have a let down after beating Dallas; because that's their only goal. "Beat the Mavs. They stole that Finals appearance from us and we're taking it back." Problem is... if they meet & beat Dallas in the 2nd round (which I'm actually inclined to doubt a little), they could definitely have a let down against the Suns...
